Santa Barbara Bungalow AB design studio, inc

ab design studio

AB design studio is a diverse group of architects, designers and builders who believe in the opportunity to make a difference through design. A classic modernist cabin from the 1950’s was transformed into a soulful retreat for an Interior Designer and her family. The original home, designed by famed Santa Barbara architect Lutah Maria Riggs, was a 2-bedroom, 1 bath home that was expanded and remodeled from foundation to roof. The result is a 3-bedroom, 2.5 bath main residence and 2-bedroom, 1 bath guest house each equipped with relaxing and inviting living spaces for the Owners and their guests to enjoy.

This interior design triumph stands as a tribute to California's coastal allure, a testament to the designer's skillful orchestration. Through a careful balance of elements, a home emerged that epitomizes the essence of coastal living—an abode that doesn't merely capture the beauty of the coastline but also weaves it intricately into the very fabric of the design. At AB design studio, we understand that great design is not just about aesthetics, but also about functionality and purpose. Our hands-on approach allows us to truly understand our clients' needs and aspirations, resulting in spaces that are not only visually stunning but also highly functional and tailored to their specific requirements.

At AB design, it’s our culture and continual refrain,  "Listen - Strategize - Create - Deliver." But we’re talking about a deeper, more intentional, and multifaceted kind of listing that’s fundamental to AB design studio design process — a special awareness - a special kind of listening. Santa Barbara's AB Design Studio was tasked with remodelling and enlarging a 1954 house that was in disrepair, including a subpar foundation made of stone rubble. In this collaborative studio environment, each team member brings their unique expertise and passion, resulting in a seamless marriage of concept, brand, and space. Our dedication to delivering exceptional service and a high level of craftsmanship is evident in every project we undertake. Our multi-disciplinary approach addresses technical, ecological, social, cultural and aesthetic concerns.

Eight home interiors where mezzanines maximise usable space

"The house reflects the artistic and Zen qualities of the area's past – a place once inhabited by a collective of bohemian poets, writers and artists – by maintaining original elements and reusing stones found on-site," the team said. Honouring the area's creative and spiritual heritage was a guiding factor for the design team, along with retaining the large boulders that dot the property. By ingeniously blending a neutral palette, warm accents, luxurious finishes, modern tiles, statement lighting, and inviting furnishings, an interiors masterpiece emerges as our designer skillfully intertwined elements to forge a quintessential California Coastal aesthetic. The team also expanded an existing deck, which now wraps around the entire house. The project also involved major changes to the landscape, including the removal of a rear driveway, which allowed for the addition of a fire pit and lawn.

Candidates shall submit a Selected Works Portfolio along with a Professional Resume & Reference List. Candidates with qualitative and relevant experience will be given priority consideration. The site work, swimming pool and new landscaping were completed in a delicate balancing act with careful respect to the existing vegetation, rock formations and oak trees that predominate the site.

ARCHITECTURE | INTERIOR DESIGN | PLANNINGAt AB design studio we Listen, Strategize, Design and Deliver - Join us for a few months to learn grow and develop valuable experience. The Architect team worked with the Client to create stepped pathways, outdoor dining enclaves and play areas within a central garden courtyard that connects the home to a new pool and guest house. The guest home addition includes expansive decks that connect to the pool area and increase the livability of the home and property. Instead of adding more living space to the main house, the guest house serves as additional living space and bedrooms for their use.

Services Offered

While the home's original architect is unknown, there are rumours it was designed by Lutah Maria Riggs – the first female architect in California to be named a fellow of the AIA. In the 1950s, Riggs designed a nearby temple for the Vendanta Society, which drew many bohemians to the area. Plush sofas and cushions beckoned leisure, while woven textures, like beachside breezes, contributed tactile warmth. The true magic lay in the seamless synergy achieved—a space where boundaries between indoors and outdoors vanished.

Oversized windows and glass doors dissolved into surrounding vistas, intertwining nature with design. Reflective surfaces mirrored the lush surroundings, while rich woods evoked driftwood treasures. Modern tiles, reminiscent of sun-kissed sands, manifested a tactile connection to the beach. Chandeliers suspended like constellations and pendant lights emulating glistening seashells added enchantment to every corner.

Our team members are empowered to take ownership of their work and contribute their expertise to every project. Through this inclusive approach, we create exceptional design solutions that exceed expectations, excite, and inspire. Each person on the project team has an opportunity to get involved in all stages of the process from concept to construction.

The goals of the homeowner were simple...create a connection to the site and views, and create a place to relax, vacate and entertain. The juxtaposition of the modern “box” addition to the simple gabled roof structure solved a request to have more volume and a more expressive indoor/outdoor feel for the home. All rooms of the main house were oriented to enjoy ocean views while the guest house enjoys views of the ocean and the mountains behind it.

It is sometimes preferable to reserve student internships for Student Interns who are currently completing the final two years of their degree or graduate degree programs in order to ensure that the prerequisite skill sets and context needed to gain the full value and experience offered from a 2-3 month internship. Longer term Student internships may also be considered and may provide the insight needed preceding a students decision to enter into a Design ar Architectural degree program. Whatever the case may be, it is AB design studio’s distinct pleasure and responsibility to nurture the next generation of Designers and Architects and as such Student internships are encouraged and a part of the AB design studio culture and experience.

This participatory model invites the project team—including clients, stakeholders, and staff—to join in dialogue, allowing all of them to dream bigger, perform better, and dare greater. From designing surf resorts in Costa Rica to master plans in Michigan, they take care in working with local councils, organizations, and leaders to create ecosystems that benefit the environment. We are hiring Interior Designers to work on Hospitality, Commercial and Residential Design projects in our studios located in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. The designer position provides essential design and/or technical support for the professional staff and typically assists in the preparation and updating of project deliverables. Roles and responsibilities for the candidate can include product research, concept design development, documentation, drawing, sketching, material board fabrication and general administrative tasks for the professional staff and the interior design studio within AB design firm. AB design studio designers gain valuable experience on fast paced projects in a creative and dynamic professional award winning studio.

After my husband told them no to their "open house" sales pitch, they called the next morning to see what I would say. We weren't told where everything was located, just given a map. We weren't told about the washer and dryer until we asked a day later. But the service — while friendly — was very slow. Plus, their credit card swipe/chip machine wasn’t working that night. So, he manually input card numbers into a POS machine (I mean that as point-of-sale and piece-of…well…) The line grew very long.

Royal Caribbean's 9-month world cruise is getting attention for "drama", but it's nothing new

9 month world cruise price

The cruise which is labeled as "the most epic world cruise ever to set sail" by Royal Caribbean includes trips to all the 7 wonders of the world and 60+ countries with 274 nights on board. Currently, the cruise is sailing near the coast of Japan and is set to make a stop in Vietnam later this month. But travelers were not required to book the entire nine-month duration of the cruise. Instead, they were able to purchase either a nine- to 28-night duration aboard the ship or one of the four segments of the trip, rather than booking the entire trip, Royal Caribbean's website states. “Imagine eating unlimited cruise food for nine months, like what that’s going to do to your body. I just worry people aren’t going to pace themselves and it’s going to be really hard on their bodies.

Passengers Open Up About What It’s Like to Go on a 9-Month Cruise Around the World

In the wake of the pandemic, some round-the-world cruises opted to continue their months-long voyages -- just without any passenger stops -- due to closed ports and increasing concerns around COVID. It would've been unthinkable 12 months ago as the cruise industry reeled from the effects of Covid, but one operator is now offering an epic new voyage that will last nine months and take travelers to more than 150 destinations. I've been on three cruises and each one couldn't be more different from the other. The very first cruise I dipped my toes into lasted a full two weeks and took us to Spain, Greece, Italy, and Egypt.

On a world cruise you can sit back and relax , because all these questions have already been answered. You just choose the route with the most interesting places for you and organise your journey to the starting harbour. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could discover the world, from America to Asia, without having to plan it all yourself?

Aside from the whole nine months, or the duration of an entire leg, travelers had the option to book a nine-to-28-night voyage. Well, free with the entry-level $53,999 price for passage aboard the Symphony of the Seas, which will reportedly carry 27,000 guests in total over the four legs of the trip, while more than 600 were booked for the entire itinerary. All sorts of videos started popping up, and when it was time to board the ship, even more videos got posted and there's been 9 million views on the platform. But before you share that article that there's drama on the world cruise, here's a reality check. As soon as the ship set sail, it seemed to ignite an overnight sensation on TikTok among people who were intrigued by the notion of spending almost a year on a cruise ship.

On a nine-month cruise, your fellow passengers aren’t just incidental travel companions bound together by proximity, they’re like neighbors in adjacent apartments in a floating shared community. They’re not just people you might run into at dinner once or twice during the week, they’re semi-permanent fixtures of your world for nine months, with whom you’ll have the time to form actual relationships. The cruise differs from a typical seven-night voyage in several crucial ways.

Viking Cruises scheduled a 245-day trip from August 2019 to May 2020 on board Viking Sun, but this voyage was cut short when COVID-19 shut down the cruise industry in Spring 2020. Your epic journey around the world, of course, is sure to come with plenty of new-to-you destinations. From world wonders such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Wall of China to sun-dappled islands from French Polynesia to Greece, the array and diversity of horizons you sail to is unparalleled.

9 month world cruise price

It’s seven continents, more than 60 countries, 8 World Wonders, and endless adventures — all one voyage. And after all that sailing toward Antarctica, the passengers weren't able to actually set foot on the icy continent. Brandee Lake, 46, and sister Shannon, 42, are sharing a state room while on the trip with their retired parents.

Young people 'tortured' if stolen vehicle operations fail, Montreal police tell MPs

This is your chance to dive deeper into the world’s most remarkable destinations on 16 unique, immersive sailings ranging from 9 to 28 nights. Besides Royal Caribbean, operators like Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Azamara also operate world cruises, albeit more expensive and much shorter. But the third and fourth segments, the "Ultimate Middle East and Mediterranean" and "Ultimate Europe and Beyond" itineraries, respectively, are still available to book. If you're one of the many people captivated by this nine-month cruise, you too can join the sailing. "This is the world cruise of world cruises," said Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. "To travelers asking themselves where they should go next, we say everywhere."

Royal Caribbean's 9-month world cruise is getting attention for "drama", but it's nothing new

Built in 2003, this Radiance-class ship is one of the smaller ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet, with a guest capacity of 2,466. Take in the largest Art Deco sculpture in the world, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Behold the largest waterfall system on the planet, Iguazú Falls near Buenos Aires. And explore Machu Picchu, one of the most iconic symbols of Peru’s ancient Inca heritage.

The young couple, who are among the many TikTok enthusiasts aboard, explained that they decided to go for it after Alé's father died of cancer at 57. A "deluxe beverage package," wash-and-fold laundry service and Wi-Fi are among the included amenities. And while the cruise has been going viral since it was first announced in 2021, it made more unfortunate headlines following the death of a passenger this month. But if even the very idea of a 274-night cruise has you reaching for Dramamine, you can always just stay on land and scroll TikTok. Then there's a video by Little Rat Brain that showed what her cabin looked like, and it has 1.4 million views.

But in reading through the comments and looking at the videos, what we're basically seeing is people post about things that happen on any vacation when you have a lot of people together in one place. In the lead up the world cruise, a number of people booked on the cruise started publishing videos about the cruise and used the #RoyalCaribbeanUltimateWorldCruise hashtag. Like so many things on social media, a bigger deal was made out of it than it really is.

Mainly – you’re not just on a short-lived vacation with your fellow passengers. You’ve essentially moved into a floating apartment building with them for almost a full year. You’re also putting your real life, relationships, and potentially careers, on hold. Who can just depart from their everyday responsibilities for a 9-month jaunt around the world? Sailing the world with many of the same passengers offers an unprecendented bonding experience with like-minded travelers.

"We were like, 'Well, we can do it. We don't have a mortgage right now. We don't have kids yet,'" Andrew said. "We're just in a season of life where we could actually take nine months off and see the world." Royal Caribbean enlisted the Radiance-class Serenade of the Seas, which holds 2,490 guests and 891 crew, for the Ultimate World Cruise experience. The 274-night Ultimate World Cruise is scheduled to visit more than 150 ports of call in 65 countries on all seven continents, according to Royal Caribbean.

The internet may be freaking out about the drama that may or may not occur on Serenade of the Seas. But there's no reason to believe this is really anything out of the ordinary. While there will certainly be people who get in trouble, annoyances, or other instances of guests behaving badly, this is not unique to a world cruise by any means. I'm not sure what constitutes "something big", but misbehaving guests, accidents, and strange occurrences happen on pretty much every cruise (and high school, theme park, or Starbucks) around the world.

TikTok and the media have become obsessed with Royal Caribbean's first ever world cruise for all the things that happen on pretty much any cruise. And so (there is) an emphasis on just doing all of the things I can do now while I’m healthy, while I’m able, instead of putting them off in hopes that I can do them later, when in reality that may not happen,” she said. She appeared to have one issue, according to a TikTok that she posted, saying she has been repeatedly asked if she is a member of the ship’s staff rather than a traveler.

The guests and crew become very much like a family on a world cruise, which can be a real joy to watch unfold — especially if you follow cruise etiquette and are considerate of others during the voyage. And the itinerary of the Ultimate World Cruise℠ 2023 is so extensive it's almost impossible to imagine. Certainly, if you love cruising and want to see much of the world as possible in one fell swoop, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to check many travel icons off your bucket list.

Packing list for the world tour

By that definition, cruises are a reality show without the cameras, which makes Royal Caribbean’s nine-month Ultimate World Cruise the perfect reality show. On top of those pieces, you’ll have taxes, fees and port expenses of $4,667 USD per person. However, if you pay for the cruise in full by 6th January 2023, you’ll get a saving of 10%.

People on TikTok became as interested in the cruise itself as the personalities of the creators. Given that the vast majority of the public has never been on a cruise before, all sorts of assumptions and predictions were made. But there have been some suggestions that people of different backgrounds might be experiencing different treatment on the ship.

The problem is the media picked up on it, and is reporting on the sort of things happening so far on the cruise as if it's something new, when it's really not. Now, the two are paying heavily when it comes to the onboard internet charges. So far, the couple has paid around $332 (£266) in WiFi charges, and they have only come halfway now. Some said they cannot fathom what being on the cruise, traveling to that many locations while eating and drinking the days away, would do to a person physically.

Kevin the cat has been reunited with his family after enduring a harrowing three-day ordeal while lost at Toronto Pearson International Airport earlier this week. A young brother and sister died and 15 people were injured, several seriously, when vehicle driven by a suspected drunken driver crashed into a birthday party Saturday. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says a car that was initially stopped for stunt driving on Highway 401 in eastern Ontario had a child and a baby not safely seated Friday evening. A 15-year-old boy is in hospital in life-threatening condition after climbing on top of the GO train, coming into contact with a stationary object and falling just after 12 a.m. Serenade of the Seas has been a stalwart of the RCCL fleet since 2003.

According to the ship's website, onboard amenities include a mini-golf course, rock climbing wall, full-service spa, pool with a retractable glass roof, and a theater hosting everything from Broadway shows to stand-up comics. Guests can choose from nearly 20 restaurants and bars, then enjoy the scenery from the ship's panoramic, multi-story windows. And Sebastian, 33, ended up going aboard for an 18-day stretch in January courtesy of Simon & Schuster's Atria Books, which enlisted him to host a virtual book club. His trip included a choppy ride through the Drake Passage ("Drake's best work since hotline bling," he captioned a post), the body of water between South America's Cape Horn and Antarctica's South Shetland Islands. If you read the comments made to the cabin tour video, there's people who can't believe little_rat_brain would stay in an inside room for 9-months. She has put a lot of effort into her cabin decorating, but plenty of people do this sort of thing on any cruise.

“I’m so invested in this 9 month world cruise happening cause I know it’s gonna be some MESS,” one person posted on X. You will experience much more cruising on a world cruise than on a week's tour of the Mediterranean. Although you invest more time, you have seen the world in one go and know which places are worthwhile for a second visit. So you can quickly find your favourite place in the world to visit time and time again. If you organised a world tour on your own, you would have to do a lot of planning and numerous bookings. This is just a small selection of the questions that need to be clarified.

Jessica Maddox, an assistant professor of digital media at the University of Alabama where Bama Rush takes place each year, said she knows first-hand how morally gray it can be to wish drama onto the lives of real people. One person began tracking all the content creators on board so that others could easily follow along. Another offered advice to those on the ship on how to stay safe and healthy. No cleaning and no cooking - all this is done by the staff on board the ships for you. It's still over two years until the Serenade of the Seas is set to embark on its globe-spanning trip, but travelers can reserve their cabins now.

Finally, experience another natural marvel — the other-worldly geothermal seawater at The Blue Lagoon in Iceland before stopping in New York and Perfect Day at CocoCay on your way back to Miami. Then your journey continues to even more destinations known for their storied history — like the fortified walls of Split, Croatia and the cobblestoned streets of Barcelona, Cannes and Provence. Venture miles from ordinary in Australia and Asia on this leg of the Ultimate World CruiseSM.

So far we've seen a couple videos with people being unaware of the benefits top tier Royal Caribbean cruisers get on any sailing, but nothing substantial. Guests had the option to book the entire 274 night voyage, or hop on for smaller segments. It's no secret that Royal Caribbean has had its first world cruise planned for over a year, but social media took notice when the sailing began this week. Probably as a group of strangers thrown together in a luxurious or foreign locale, engaging in various activities where romance, conflict, and hysterics could ensue.
